Today we made and distributed about 230 tick tubes around the camp. With 215 acres, it is impossible to kill all the ticks on the property, but we want to do what we can.

A tick tube is an empty toilet paper roll with cotton inside that has been soaked in permethrin.  This insecticide is very effective in killing ticks.  It does not kill the ticks directly but when mice use the permethrin-treated cotton to make their nests, the insecticide will kill the tics on the mice. In the nymph mode mice are one of the main food sources. This method is reported to even help in subsequent years.
