The weather in Ramey continues to be cold. Because we are trying to keep the project moving forward, we opted for the extra work of setting up a tent over the cabin site to lay block. On Tuesday January 25, the concrete blocks were scheduled to arrive. When the drivers saw the snow covered hill, they informed us that they would not be able to drive up the hill and place the blocks directly in the foundation. Instead, they unloaded the concrete blocks at the bottom of the hill. We than loaded them on the trailer, took them to the top of the hill, and carried them into the foundation, and stacked them. Yes, we did have very tired muscles. On Thursday the mason started laying the block. The foundation work should be finished the first few days of February. As soon as the foundation is completed, we will begin framing the walls.
One of the big blessings of this past week was a call stating that our request for a variance had been approved. We requested a variance for the sprinkler systems in the cabins. Not only are the sprinklers very expensive, but we questioned their benefit in a small cabin. We explained that we do not believe that sprinkler system would save lives in a small cabin. In fact, we were concerned about the chaos if a sprinkler system tripped in the middle of the night. The Moshannon Valley Council of Governments understood our position and voted unanimously to grant us a variance for the sprinkler systems.
